Stylish Blogger Award and the Sockbunny

Today Carolien of Teveel Leuks gave me the Stylish Blogger Award. And ofcourse I am so happy with that! Besides that, earlier this week I got something else that I like very much. It is the Sockbunny that's on the picture and I got it from Caet's Blog. I was totally surprised, because I was too late for her Giveaway but even though she gave me one. I like it so much that her blog definitely deserves the award! Passing on a blog award is not easy, because there are so many lovely blogs. But I will mention a few that I think are extra special.

1. Caet's Blog with the beautiful Sockbunnies and the allways very lovely Giveaways!
2. Breiwerkjes van Lidia. Lidia makes truly outrageous clothes for Barbies. What I think is very special is that the profit is for charity. So go visit her blog and buy something! (-:
3. Not a blog, but lovely things: the Flick-page of my sister which is called Het Bovenhuis. Really lovely items made out of felt which you can order if you like them.
4. Dawn's blog, named Sewritzytitzy. Dawn doesn't only make lovely pictures, the also makes gorgeous crocheted things.
5. The blog of Matawi's Crea. She just opened her owns webstore so therefore she has a Giveaway untill the 1st of August. So hurry over to her site and enter the Giveaway!

When I asked this week to send me a picture if someone had one of my squares finished, I didn't expect to get a response so soon. Els has send me this picture of the lovely blanket she's made based on the granny squares of this pattern (only available in Dutch). I asked her to tell a bit more about the blanket, and this is what she wrote:

"Actually I didn't make the blanket for someone special (allthough one of our nieces is expecting a baby). I've allways been creative and originally I've learnt everything (except Bobbin Lace and Tatting). My mother allways started the day with half an hour of crochet, it was her meditation time. My bathroom is provided with a whole pile of her crochet towels, the garden table with a beautiful cloth, the marble bags of our sons are now washcloths, etc.
Furthermore, she could knit beautiful and above all she could sew things together in a lovely way, something that allways came in handy for me because she has allways put my projects together. It's really a shame that I was so "lazy", because she can't teach me anymore. She passed away 10 years ago.
My grandmothers were always busy as well. My paternal grandmother was a bit more modern: she had circular needles, I think before anyone had heard of them. She spun her own wool, embroidered tablecloths, crocheted handkerchiefs from old shirts (the back piece was a nice square) that got crocheted edges with some very fine yarn, flower embroidered and ready.
Off and on I'm knitting, crocheting, sewing, doing embroidery .... The past few years it was knitting socks (which you do not have to put together!) but since I saw your pillow of squares a week or two ago, I went looking for the crochet hooks of my mother.
I've made 112 squares in a very short time. I have to mention that I do not have a job outside the house. In the morning, I'm already up at 7 and I sit with coffee on our balcony with something to knit/crochet in my hands. And so there are many moments throughout the day that I can do something. I do not like to watch TV, it's turned off most of the time. I prefer crafting while listening to Classic FM.
For the blanket on the picture I used 56 squares, my daughter-in-law took the other 56. She has a mathematical talent and I wanted to try not to get doubles on the outer edges in the same row. I thought that would be a breeze, but no. She has thought about it and ... I will get her suggestion somewhere this week.
A do not have a website or blog, I have been thinking about that for some time but I'm afraid that I will spend to much time behind the PC."

Thanks you so much Els, I really enjoyed reading your story and I really love your blanket!

P.S.

Een nieuwe deken - A new blanket?

Maybe you've already noticed that I started making granny squares again. The last time I made squares I didn't really like it because it took more time then I wanted to make something. But granny squares are so lovely! Ofcourse I cannot stop making them. So I decided to make a blanket that contains 247 squares. I want to make one square a day and crochet other things in the meantime as well. Therefore it will take some time untill the blanket is finished but I hope it's worth the effort!

Pannenlappen - Potholders

Ingrid, heel erg bedankt!

One of the blogs I love to read is the blog of Ingrid. Just recently I read this post, and I liked it so much that I left a comment on her blog to let her know that I was really interested in one of the potholders. Yesterday I received these lovely, mostly orange, potholders and I love them! They so fitted my mood after a fabulous day on which I went to see the Dutch Football Team standing at the Royal Palace in The Hague. With an orange crown on my head I waited for two hours to cheer for them only five minutes and I am so glad I did! Because no matter what the world press has to say, I think they did a great job by becoming second. So after that lovely day, Ingrid's gift was really the icing on the cake! Thanks so much Ingrid!

Danidou

Because I have two pregnant friends at the moment I started looking for a nice gift. There are so many nice things on the internet, but ofcourse I prefer to give something that is knitted or crochet. The most lovely site of all is the site of Danidou if you ask me. Everything you order there is especially made for you, so you can pick your own colours as well. I'm not sure if my friends read my blog, therefore I will not tell what I'm having made for them. Click here to visit the site of Danidou.

Laptophoes - Laptopcover

Isn't winning the World Championship Soccer 2010 amazing? Well, now that I live in The Netherlands I certainly hope we will! I've seen a lot of this World Championship, but in between watching the matches and all the fun that came with that, I finally got to crochet a laptopcover. I'm really happy with the result. Now let's hope we'll win the match this Sunday!

Giveaways!

Two of the blogs I follow have a really lovely Giveaway at this moment! So hurry over to the blog of Handmaidliset and Marutska and leave a comment on the post about the Giveaway.

Stoffen - Fabrics!

Those who have read the beginning of my blog know that this blog started as a knitting blog. But over the last months I've developed an interest in so many crafts, that sometimes I'll show you things that don't have to do a lot with knitting. (For those of you who can't read Dutch, it's Annemarie's Knitting Blog.) Last week I found the website VanMarieke. She has a fabulous webshop with some really nice fabrics, but also the Do-It-Yourself-section is really great! You can make your own applique with the Iron On Velours that she sells. You should also check out the accessories on her site. She has some really nice magnets and pocketmirrors there!
